We also continue to pioneer new programs for employees — like Career Choice, Leave Share, and Ramp Back. Career Choice pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses that teach in-demand skills, regardless of whether those skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. We’ll pay for nursing certifications, airplane mechanic courses, and many others. We’re building classrooms with glass walls right in our fulfillment centers as a way to encourage employees to participate in the program and to make it easy. Career Choice paid for Sharie to get licensed to drive an 18-wheeler. Sharie worked hard, passed her tests, and she’s now a long-haul driver for Schneider Trucking — and loving it. Amazon’s Journey is so much of ups and downs that the mammoth that it is today deserves lot of credit.  I have read these 2 books called “One Click & The Rise of Amazon” & “The Everything Store” before writing this post and this gave me so many insights about this company’s ethics and principles.  Do give it a read.
Can we do it? I’m optimistic. We have a good start on it, and I think our culture puts us in a position to achieve the goal. But I don’t think it’ll be easy. There are some subtle traps that even high-performing large organizations can fall into as a matter of course, and we’ll have to learn as an institution how to guard against them. One common pitfall for large organizations — one that hurts speed and inventiveness — is “one-size-fits-all” decision making.
This does mean that you’re likely going to lose money on these sales at the beginning, but it’s important that you have this budget in place, because as I mentioned, you do need these initial sales in order to get your listing launched and ranked for some keywords so that you can begin to get natural organic sales.
Nearly all of Amazon’s most recent innovations share a connection to Prime, which by some estimates accounts for 60% of the total dollar value of all merchandise sold on the site. Between 40 million and 50 million people in the United States use Prime, and, according to Morgan Stanley, those customers spend around $2,500 on Amazon annually, more than four times what nonmembers spend. As an FBA seller, you’ll have to prepare your products correctly for Amazon’s warehouse, then send them to Amazon. This includes printing barcode labels for products, bagging or packaging items per Amazon requirements, and shipping them to Amazon. But for many smaller sellers, this is a once- or twice-monthly task and more manageable that filling orders day-to-day. Plus, Amazon’s inbound shipping costs are very inexpensive, so that cost isn’t a great concern for small sellers.
This is my favorite business model by far. Online courses are low-risk, high-reward, and they scale incredibly well. All it takes is for you to sell an information product like a video or written course.
Boxes are towed from the docks into the million-square-foot warehouse, sometimes by driverless vehicles. This facility handles the largest items that Amazon ships, which is why there’s also a huge, 6-ton yellow robot on the main floor. Once a package leaves the warehouse, it may end up on a Boeing 767 with the Prime Air logo emblazoned on its side. Bezos rolled out the first in a fleet of 40 wide-bodies last summer, which will be operated in partnership with two aircraft-leasing companies. In January, Amazon announced that the fleet would be supported by a new air hub in Kentucky that will employ 2,000 workers—a $1.49 billion investment, according to a spokeswoman with the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The planes, like the thousands of cargo trailers that already sport the Prime logo, make Amazon less dependent on its partnerships with FedEx, DHL, and the United States Postal Service. And, pending FAA approval, those fully operational Amazon delivery drones might one day cut delivery time down to 30 minutes or less.

At Amazon, workers are encouraged to tear apart one another’s ideas in meetings, toil long and late (emails arrive past midnight, followed by text messages asking why they were not answered), and held to standards that the company boasts are “unreasonably high.” The internal phone directory instructs colleagues on how to send secret feedback to one another’s bosses. The only thing that I can say is that it helps to know someone who works at Amazon who might be able to divert some attention to your account. Other than that, you are placed in the same queue as everyone else.
Besides that, the other facts that make me planing to leave Amazon are, that the management of Amazon is getting mess, which is a sign that shows a business will fail in the future, although it looks now like a giant. Too many shipment have been lost and disappeared, and they tried to avoid to pay you reimbursement and delay to give you solution. Our interest is not protected. The promotion of your products remains your brand’s responsibility unless you pay Amazon to do it for you. According to James Thomson, former head of Selling on Amazon, “If you sell to Amazon, Amazon doesn’t promote anything unless you step up and pay big marketing dollars. Promoting your brand remains your responsibility.”
When people discuss the rise of online marketplaces, they tend to focus on the tech companies that have made it possible for shoppers to find and purchase things in a matter of clicks. But that explains only the demand side of the equation. It doesn’t explain the supply side–why all this product is available so cheaply and freely in the first place.
One area where I think we are especially distinctive is failure. I believe we are the best place in the world to fail (we have plenty of practice!), and failure and invention are inseparable twins. To invent you have to experiment, and if you know in advance that it’s going to work, it’s not an experiment. This long-tailed distribution of returns is why it’s important to be bold. Big winners pay for so many experiments.

Amazon retains new workers in part by requiring them to repay a part of their signing bonus if they leave within a year, and a portion of their hefty relocation fees if they leave within two years. The real hired help wield the whip and function as overseers to the slaves, and they would make Simon Legree look kind. Amazon’s whole relationship with its sellers is based on punishment. “Standard shipping” has to be sent the same or next day, and you have to report it within the same time period; they DO NOT accept flimsy excuses like three-day blizzards that close the state highway system and shut down the mail. You do it ANYWAY, or YOU WILL BE PUNISHED.
“This is a company that strives to do really big, innovative, groundbreaking things, and those things aren’t easy,” said Susan Harker, Amazon’s top recruiter. “When you’re shooting for the moon, the nature of the work is really challenging. For some people it doesn’t work.”
Despite all the twists and surprises in recent decades—all the newcomers with youth, funding, and can-do enthusiasm—Amazon remains the undisputed leader, a startup at heart still striving to remake our expectations. And to repeatedly remake itself.
Two years ago we set a long-term goal to use 100% renewable energy across our global AWS infrastructure. We’ve since announced four significant wind and solar farms that will deliver 1.6 million megawatt hours per 1 year of additional renewable energy into the electric grids that supply AWS data centers. Amazon Wind Farm Fowler Ridge has already come online. We reached 25% sustainable energy use across AWS last year, are on track to reach 40% this year, and are working on goals that will cover all of Amazon’s facilities around the world, including our fulfillment centers.
