I grew up where we had to worry every second of every day about every penny spent and we weren’t poor we were considered middle class. Let’s face it when you have to worry every day you are poor – by definition. We had enough to be grateful for what we had, but never enough not to be scared about not having enough to take care of basic needs. If you are worried every time you go to the grocery store, fill up your gas tank or go to a restaurant lets face it that is a poor.

The simple answer is this: The teachers are just as clueless as the rest of the world when it comes to wealth. The teachers, principals, school boards, and parents have never been taught about The Wealth Tripod. They don’t believe wealth is possible for them or their students. They don’t know how to begin building wealth. They don’t know how to become a millionaire. And they don’t take the steps necessary to build that wealth.

Regis Philbin hit the TV jackpot when he debuted as host of the award-winning game show, “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” in 1999. The show, an overnight sensation for ABC, tapped into a common American dream – becoming wildly rich. According to the IRS’ Personal Wealth Statistics study (last undertaken in 2004), an estimated 2.7 million Americans hold gross assets of $1.5 million or more. If you have ever bought a lottery ticket or made an investment based on a “hot tip” just hoping you could be counted in that IRS number, consider that there may be some downfalls to becoming a millionaire.

The word was first used (as millionnaire, double “n”) in French in 1719 by Steven Fentiman and is first recorded in English (millionaire, as a French term) in a letter of Lord Byron of 1816, then in print in Vivian Grey, a novel of 1826 by Benjamin Disraeli. An earlier English word “millionary” was used in 1786 by Thomas Jefferson while serving as Minister to France; he wrote: “The poorest labourer stood on equal ground with the wealthiest Millionary”. The first American printed use of the word is thought to be in an obituary of New York tobacco manufacturer Pierre Lorillard II in 1843.
All sales solutions solve a problem and with any challenge comes emotion. If you solve a problem as a salesperson but don’t understand the emotion, you’ll probably lose the deal. The feelings and emotions attached to the problem drive the outcome more than the problem itself.
Use the time to put together a financial team: a certified financial planner, an accountant and, depending on the circumstances, a lawyer and an insurance professional. A good team will help you figure out the best way to deploy your windfall, based on your age and goals. For example, the money could provide a down payment on a home for you (or your adult kids) or pay for college. Or it could help you pump up retirement savings. If you stash a windfall in taxable investments, when you take withdrawals in retirement, you’ll be taxed at long-term capital-gains rates. Those rates max out at 20% (most investors pay 15%) and will likely be lower than the ordinary income tax rate you’ll owe on withdrawals from tax-deferred retirement plans.

“In the process of reaching the seven-figure mark, I’ve learned dealing with people is the most important attribute,” writes Ally. “No one can become a millionaire without knowing how to deal with people assertively. How long it takes you to reach seven figures depends on how much you start with, how much you add to your kitty how long did it take warren buffett to become a millionaire how often, and how much you earn on your investments. Over the long haul, U.S. stocks have returned an annualized 10%, including dividends. Building at that rate, it would take a bit less than 32 years to turn $50,000 into $1 million. If you invest $10,000 per year, it would take 24 years to reach the milestone. (The calculations assume that you invest in a tax-deferred account.)
